Maybe You Should Talk to Someone - my favorite book in recent years! While it's not a book about being a solo mom, the author is one, and writes about her decision to become one and how it has impacted her life. 


For Those Who Are Already Doing It: 

I've started a wishlist of books that I will read to my child. As a teacher, I know the importance of exposure to many kinds of literature, and this list touches on all the different family makeups of the modern world. I hope that books like these will educate our children about how all families are different, and that is okay!

The Pea that was Me - In a positive and upbeat way, children are told about it takes a sperm and an egg to make "a little pea", that grows into baby, and then becomes a little boy or girl

All Kinds of Families  - A book to talk about different kinds of families kids will encounter in the world.  A silly and positive introduction to open-mindedness and all kinds of family love.

Love Makes a Family - Whether a child has two moms, two dads, one parent, or one of each, this book demonstrates that what's most important in each family's life is the love the family members share.

Hope and Will Have a Baby: The Gift of Sperm Donation - A story where an inquisitive little boy learns of his parents’ quest to have children, and the success they ultimately achieve in creating a family through sperm donation.

For Mommy Loved You So: IUI Conception - A heartfelt story about a single woman creating her family through intrauterine insemination with an anonymous donor.

Mommy and Me: How I Came to Be - Told by the main character - a young boy around 6 years old whose mom has chosen to have a child on her own.

Happy Together: A Single Mom by Choice Story - With help from a doctor and a donor, Mommy's dream came true and a baby was welcomed with great joy.

Magic Kids  - There are kids all over the world who are born without a daddy because that’s what their mommy chose… but that doesn’t mean their family is missing something. These kids are made with special ingredients that make their existence magic. 

Somy's Search: A Single Mum by Choice Story - It's is a story of a squirrel, Somy, and how she become a Mum.  After a birthday party she realizes she is growing older and needs to decide if she wants to become a Mum.  She tries to meet someone and then decides to go for sperm donation.

You Were Meant for Me: Single Mom by Choice Growing a family isn't always easy and sometimes mommies need a little help.

Our Story: How we Became a Family A book for donor conceived children under seven years old explaining about their origins.

My Family, Your Family - Makayla is visiting friends in her neighborhood. She sees how each family is different.  How is her own family like the others? What makes each one great? This diverse cast allows readers to compare and contrast families in multiple ways.

Mama Can You? - Jax begins to share his feelings and concerns with his single mom about not having a dad. Mama reassures Jax that she will always be there to support him in every stage of his life, helping him to gain a sense of confidence that he has never had before. This story depicts an everyday situation that thousands of single parents must face in raising a child in a one-parent household

Little Treasure - Journey to Single Motherhood - Ellie sets off on a journey to find a special treasure, with the help of nice people, she finds this treasure inside of her; a little baby, born with the help of a donor.

It's OK to be Different - By highlighting the ways kids are different from one another it helps children to accept themselves and others. This book shows young children that they don't have to be alike or enjoy doing the same activities to be kind to one another.

Why Don't I Have a Daddy? - As the little lion cub notices all different types of families, he starts to question his own family. His family consists of his mother and him. The little cub learns that while there is no "daddy" in his family, there is a donor lion who made his life possible.

The Family Book - Celebrates the love we feel for our families and all the different varieties they come in. Whether you have two moms or two dads, a big family or a small family, a clean family or a messy one
